Antidepressants

If you’re experiencing depression as a symptom of menopause, an antidepressant might be right for you and, as an added plus, might help with hot flashes. As with most drugs, these come with side effects, a common one being inability to orgasm. The frequently prescribed drug class called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) usually causes this problem, but there are alternatives. Discuss with your physician what’s best for you. ♀

Testing for FSH Levels

What is FSH and why is it important? Both men and women have follicle stimulating hormone levels in their blood. In women, it stimulates both the production of eggs in the ovary and the hormone estradiol. Your doctor will likely order this blood test when you start reporting menopausal symptoms.
